On December 28, traditionally the last business day of the year, 40 women from Fukushima came to Tokyo on a bus to protest against TEPCO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The action was dubbed “The Year-end Closing Action by Women”. More than 300 supporters gathered in front of the TEPCO main office. “Our lives and the environment were totally destroyed by the Fukushima crisis, yet TEPCO and the government are not held accountable for it. Moreover, they are now trying to restart the nuclear power plants and to export them. We can’t celebrate the New Year in such a mood! TEPCO should not close for a holiday!” With these convictions in our hearts, we demanded a meeting with the power company, but the company received us at the gate, leaving us standing in the cold. There were cries of anger: “Shame on TEPCO!”

The group moved to METI for the protest action and then to Ginza for a publicity action.

They finally headed back to Fukushima at 4 p.m.              (Nishinaka Seiichiro)

At 4am December 28^th, the Okinawa Defense Bureau tried to deliver to the Okinawa Prefectural Government Office 16 boxes containing the Environmental Assessment for moving the Futenma Base to Henako. There were citizen protesters at the site, so the Bureau left some at the security office and took the remaining boxes back to the Bureau. The people of Okinawa have grown increasingly angry.   An emergency protest action was held in Tokyo by members of Hitotsubo (small parcel) Anti-war Landowners’ Group Kanto Area Local. Nearly one hundred people gathered in front of the Defense Ministry and Prime Minister's Office in the evening, raising chants of anger such as “The delivery is invalid!” “Shame on you!” A representative of the protesters submitted to the Cabinet Office a protest letter on which was written “Shame on you” in big letters .（Ｍ）

This is a part of a report by the “Tour Group to Deliver a Letter to TEPCO President, Katsumata” on their efforts to get to his house on December 25^th. The group went to the Yotsuya Sanchome area and just around the corner of a convenience store was Katsumata's house. But police officers were blocking the street like a wall. Isn't this an illegal occupation of public road? Why were they doing this? Whose interests were they serving? The road to his house was packed with the participants of the tour. After an argument back and forth, the police allowed us to use the road, but only three people at a time.  I went through the checkpoint and walked to the house with Sono Ryota and Himawari-san. Sono shouted at Katsumata's house, which looked like a huge white coffin, “Why is this house protected by police? If this were not Japan, it would be set on fire immediately and be done with!”(Ueda Mami)

As the reconstruction of the quake-stricken areas gradually moves forward, more women are finding difficulties in getting jobs. There are many fixed term manual labor jobs, such as removing debris, but there are very few steady jobs for women. The East Japan Great Earthquake Women's Support Network met with Minister of Welfare and Labor Komiyama to demand improvement of the job situation for women in the Tohoku area. The network gathered voices of women in need of jobs in the area and urged the Minister to improve the employment assistance policy. A woman from Miyagi Prefecture, aged 32, said, “Please assist in any form women who want to work but can't find jobs and give them security.”(Matsumoto Chie)

The number of regular workers in the Japan Post Group is around 230 thousand and the number for non-regular workers is around 210 thousand. Particularly in the postal service division, more than 60 percent of the workforce is non-regular. They are doing the same work as regular workers, but suffer from unstable employment, low wages and disparity in treatment. At the end of September, 2011, 14 thousand non-regular workers over age 65 were terminated, causing chaos in the workplace due to under-staffing.　The National Joint Committee for the Progress of the Postal Labor Movement (coordinated by the Postal Industry Union, the Postal Workers’ Union, and Kurashiki Postal Union) started a petition campaign for “the equal treatment of non-regular workers in the postal service and their promotion to regular status.” Readers can support the campaign by signing the petition on the web of the Non-regular Postal Workers’ Center.  '평택 쌍용자동차 공장'은 일명 '죽음의 공장'이라고도 불린다. 2009년 여름 '해고는 살인이다'라는 구호를 외치며 쌍용자동차 조합원들이 싸웠지만 그 누구도 이 구호가 이런 현실이 될 줄 몰랐다. 19명의 죽음... 그리고 어쩌면 그 다음의 죽음... 이 죽음들이 이어짐에도 계속해서 남아있는 건 마침표가 아닌 물음표다. 공장으로 돌아가야 한다. 지켜지지 않는 약속을 지키게 해야 한다. 이들의 싸움을 잊고 외면하는 자들에게 우리가 가져야 하는 게 물음표다.

২০১১ হতে পারত আমাদের সবচেয়ে ভালো বছর। এই সরকার ক্ষমতায় আসার পরই বিডিআর বিপর্যয়, সেটা সামলাতেই প্রথম বছর কেটে গেছে, দ্বিতীয় বছরটায় প্রয়োজনীয় প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে তৃতীয় বছরটায় আমরা উন্নয়নের পথে উড়াল দিতে পারব—এক বছর আগে এই ছিল আশা। বছর শেষে হিসাবের খেরোখাতায় দেখা যাচ্ছে, যোগের চেয়ে বিয়োগ হয়েছে বেশি, জমার চেয়ে খরচের খাতটা বড়। গ্রামীণ ব্যাংক থেকে এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা নোবেল পুরস্কার বিজয়ী ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসকে সরিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে, আদালত সেই সিদ্ধান্ত বহাল রেখেছেন, কিন্তু দেশে-বিদেশে এই পদক্ষেপ সাধুবাদ পায়নি। শেয়ারবাজারে দরপতন অব্যাহত ছিল, এবং খোন্দকার ইব্রাহিম খালেদ তদন্ত কমিটির সুপারিশকে খুব একটা আমলে নেওয়া হয়নি। মানুষ রাস্তায় বিক্ষোভ করেছে, অনশন করেছে, কিন্তু তাতে তাদের দুঃখকষ্ট ক্ষতি কমেনি। বিনা বিচারে হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটেই চলেছে, র‌্যাব কর্তৃক লিমনের পায়ে গুলি করার খবরে হইচই পড়ে গেছে, কিন্তু তা বিচারের বাণীকে নীরবে নিভৃতে কাঁদতে দেখা ছাড়া আর কিছু করতে পেরেছে বলে মনে হয় না।
তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারব্যবস্থা বাতিল হয়ে গেছে, আদালতের পূর্ণাঙ্গ রায় প্রকাশের আগেই তড়িঘড়ি এই বিল পাসের উদ্দেশ্য অনেকের কাছেই সাধু বলে মনে হয়নি। বিরোধী দল রাস্তায় নেমে পড়েছে। জ্বালাও-পোড়াও শুরু হয়ে গেছে।
মিরসরাইয়ে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় ৪৪ জন স্কুলছাত্র মৃত্যুবরণ করেছে, সেই শোকের অশ্রু শুকানোর আগেই এসেছে আরেক আঘাত, সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় মারা গেছেন চলচ্চিত্রকার তারেক মাসুদ আর সাংবাদিক মিশুক মুনীর।
ঢাকা সিটি করপোরেশন বিভক্তির বিল পাস হয়ে গেছে কোনো রকম আলোচনা ছাড়াই। এত সব নেতিবাচক খবরের মধ্যে ইতিবাচক খবর খুঁজে পাওয়া মুশকিল। সংবিধানের ত্রয়োদশ সংশোধনী বিল বাতিল করা হয়েছে আদালতের রায়ে, এরশাদের সামরিক শাসন ঘোষিত হয়েছে অবৈধ বলে। আর নারায়ণগঞ্জ সিটি করপোরেশন নির্বাচনে মানুষ দাঁড়িয়েছে সন্ত্রাস-চাঁদাবাজির বিরুদ্ধে, দলীয় সমর্থন না পাওয়া সত্ত্বেও জনতা জয়ের মালা পরিয়েছেন সেলিনা হায়াৎ আইভীর গলায়।
বাংলাদেশে বিশ্বকাপ ক্রিকেট আয়োজন করা গেছে সুন্দরভাবে এবং মেসির আর্জেন্টিনার আগমন ঘটেছে বাংলাদেশে।
ভালোর চেয়ে কালো বেশি, আর আশ্চর্য যে, এগুলোর একটাও প্রাকৃতিক নয়, সবই মনুষ্যসৃষ্ট। অর্থাৎ আমাদের নেতৃত্ব যদি চাইতেন, এগুলো পরিহার করা অনেক ক্ষেত্রে সম্ভব হতো। রাজনীতিতে বিরোধীপক্ষকে এক হাত দেখিয়ে নেওয়ার বা দলীয়করণের মোহ যদি ত্যাগ করা যায়, বাংলাদেশকে সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে নেওয়া খুবই সম্ভব।
পৃথিবীজুড়ে ২০১১ ছিল ঘটনাবহুল। প্রধান ঘটনা নিশ্চয়ই আরব বসন্তের হাওয়া। তার কতটা দক্ষিণা, আর কতটা পশ্চিমা—এই প্রশ্ন নিশ্চয়ই তোলা যাবে। জাপানে ভূমিকম্প ও সুনামির ব্যাপকতা বলছে, আমরা এখনো কতটাই অসহায়। লাদেনের মৃত্যু, গাদ্দাফি হত্যাকাণ্ডে পশ্চিমারা প্রকাশ্যে স্বস্তি প্রকাশ করেছে, কিন্তু বিনা বিচারে হত্যাকাণ্ড নিয়ে খুব উচ্ছ্বসিত হতে প্রাচ্যের মন সায় দেয় কি? উইলিয়াম ও কেটের বিয়ে নিয়ে পৃথিবীব্যাপী আগ্রহ দেখা দিয়েছিল, মনে পড়ে পুরোনো কৌতুক, বাঘের বিয়েতে বিড়াল লাফাচ্ছে—‘আরে বিড়াল, তুই লাফাস কেন’, বিড়াল বলে, ‘ও তো আমারই ভাই, বিয়ের আগে তো আমিও বাঘই ছিলাম, বিয়ের পরেই না বিড়াল হয়ে গেলাম।’
জাতিসংঘে স্বাধীন ফিলিস্তিনের দাবি উঠেছে, আমেরিকা যথারীতি বিরোধিতা করেছে, ইউনেসকোয় ফিলিস্তিনি পতাকা উড্ডয়নের প্রতিবাদে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র তার চাঁদা দেওয়া বন্ধ করে দিয়েছে। স্টিভ জবসের মৃত্যু নিয়ে ব্যাপক লেখালেখি হয়েছে দেশে দেশে। পশ্চিমবঙ্গে পতন ঘটেছে লাল দুর্গের, মিয়ানমারে পরিবর্তনের হাওয়া বইছে, অং সান সু চি মুক্ত আকাশের নিচে সক্রিয়তা দেখাচ্ছেন, আমেরিকার সঙ্গে কূটনৈতিক লেনদেন শুরু হয়েছে মিয়ানমারের।
সবচেয়ে বেশি আশাবাদ তৈরি করেছে হয়তো ‘ওয়াল স্ট্রিট দখল করো’ আন্দোলন। পৃথিবীব্যাপী বৈষম্যের বিরুদ্ধে মানুষ সজাগ ও সোচ্চার হতে শুরু করেছে, ওতেই ঊষার আগমনবার্তা দেখছেন কেউ কেউ।

Dear Comrades,

On behalf of the International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS), its
International Coordinating Committee and its nearly 400
member-organizations throughout the world, I wish to convey through your
Committee the most heartfelt condolences to the family of the beloved
leader Comrade Kim Jong Il and to the Korean people, the People's
Democratic Republic of Korea and the Workers' Party of Korea over his
passing away.

We share the grief of the Korean people and their desire to turn this
into further strength. Comrade Kim Jong Il leaves a legacy that is always
inspiring to his people and to the people of the world. Emulating his
great father Comrade Kim Il Sung, he has rendered great service to the
Korean people and has won great achievements in leading and mobilizing
them in the spirit of patriotism and self-reliance against imperialism,
especially that of the US.

We salute Comrade Kim Jong Il for his accomplishments in asserting the
national independence and socialist aspirations of the Korean people, in
seeking the peaceful reunification of the north and south, in carrying
out economic construction and overcoming natural calamities, in
developing a strong defense against imperialist war provocations,
economic sanctions and military encirclement, in demanding the
denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and in contributing to the cause
of world peace and the solidarity of the people of the world.

Because of the ever shining legacy of Comrade Kim Jong Il, we are
confident that the Korean people and DPRK under the new leadership of
Comrade Kim Jong Un will continue to take the revolutionary path and
serve as a bulwark against imperialism and all reaction, especially at
this time that the world capitalist system is in severe crisis and US
imperialism is more aggressive and more overbearing than ever before in
East Asia and elsewhere.

We of the International League of Peoples' Struggle will always stand in
solidarity with the Korean people and the DPRK along the anti-imperialist
and democratic line. We are firmly and vigorously committed to the
struggle for greater freedom, democracy, social justice, all-round
development and world peace.
